Sara Rubinstein is a commercial photographer and director based in Minneapolis, MN. Her work combines elements of authenticity, emotional range, and beauty. These qualities combined into visual works have earned Sara accolades from Communication Arts, APA, ASMP, One Eyeland, Shots Magazine, and publications worldwide.
Whether shooting Brand level projects for clients such as Optum, Dupont, or United Airlines, or for Editorial content including Major League Baseball, Eating Well or the University of Minnesota, Sara’s ability to work with both professional talent and real people shines. Her gift of directing subjects in front of the lens shows throughout her emotionally diverse body of work.
Sara graduated from Carleton College in 1998 with a degree in Biology and a minor in German. It took a 6 month stint exploring her tech side as a computer programmer before Sara found commercial photography, starting off as a photo assistant until transitioning to full time shooting back in 2002. Looking back, Sara is a bit surprised to realize that her degree in Biology has helped her understand some of the subject matter she shoots, particularly when working in the Medical and Agricultural sectors.
Personally, Sara is the mother of two children and one college kid that appear throughout her personal work. Her passions include photography, travel (follow her on Instagram to see recent journeys throughout South America as well as family road trips in the family’s 1978 VW Campervan), and riding horses on occasion. She lives with her husband and children, one parakeet, and one bearded dragon near downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota.
